it's okay to be wrong

There are times you might come across a show that is quite critically acclaimed; and with your expectations set high you'll decide to give it a watch.
You might be a fan of the cover or the general aesthetic before you even start watching it but while experiencing it you might start to feel that it's not hitting as much as you expected.
This happened to me a few times already with different shows. Some examples being the Madoka movie, EoE, Sonny Boy, Haibane Renmei and KnK.
And guess what, once I gave it some time to sink in and understood EoE, it became one of my favorite movies of all time.

Same thing actually happened with Haibane Renmei which I didnt appreciate nearly as much the first time I watched it (gave it a 7 the first time and now a 10) cause I went in with way different expectations
(I swear it had the suspense tag on mal, I'm not making this up)
I remember thinking that I would've enjoyed it more if more things happened in the story and watching it now, it's funny how off the mark I was.

This time I was able to appreciate it's "slower" pace and get absorbed into its world and its characters that much more. Every theme resonated with me deeply and every episode had a purpose.
Somehow a show I gave a 7 to a year ago (which is not a bad rating), turned to one of my favorite shows.

What I want to say is, as the title says, it's okay to be wrong. It's okay to misjudge something, cause you can always revisit it at a later time.
Our tastes are constantly changing and it's very much normal to appreciate something more when you get more exposure to the medium and slowly develop your own taste for things.
Of course this doesn't mean that you should feel "forced" to like something just because others like it. but you should give yourself the time and space to grow.

Now when will this happen is personal. For me I'd say it took a little longer than I'd like to admit, but ever since watching Aria I feel like my appreciation for the medium has grown exponentially.
Slowly getting into movies I think has also helped as I wasn't always a big fan of them and tended to prefer shows that had a bigger runtime to showcase their stories and characters.

Most important thing is to have an open mind, try new things, and slowly try to figure out what you enjoy in this medium.
There is no right and wrong taste, but it's nice to have something of your own.
